Two-Hour Tips: Integrating Best Practices into K-12 Lesson Planning
Intermediate Diploma Requirement or Substitution for Two-Hour Tips: Ready to Work as an IC? (Intermediate Diploma) Sunday October 11th, 2026
9:00 am-11:00 am Eastern Time (New York)
Theatrical Intimacy Education involves teaching actors and directors how to approach and portray intimacy and sexual behavior on stage in a safe, respectful, and consensual manner. These best practices can be incorporated into high school theatre lesson plans in various ways. One approach is to utilize exercises and discussions to help students understand and practice the concepts of consent and effective communication. This can include role-playing scenarios in which students practice setting boundaries, asking for consent, and respecting their scene partners' decisions. In addition to addressing these important topics, these exercises can also help students develop their acting skills, such as staying present and focused in the moment. Another aspect of Theatrical Intimacy Education that can be incorporated into lesson plans is using choreography to create consensual physical contact on stage. This can involve working with a choreographer or intimacy director to develop specific touch and movement patterns that are both expressive and respectful of all involved. By incorporating these best practices into their lesson plans, high school theatre teachers can create a space of acceptable risks and a respectful environment for students to explore and portray close relationships in their performances

Working with Trans and Non-Binary Artists
Beginner Diploma
Saturday, November 7th, 2026
12:00 pm-3:00 pm Eastern Time (New York)
Working with Trans and Non-Binary Artists will outline TIE’s best practices for staging effective and affirming trans and non-binary intimacy. Our theatre, film, and educational institutions are built upon colonial sex/gender systems, resulting in stories that often misrepresent life outside the binary while marginalizing trans storytellers themselves. As arts professionals, we are called into a relational and reparative approach to resist bias against transgender and non-binary people and forge new methods for consent-based collaboration. This course offers interactive, reflective opportunities to engage with queer/trans perspectives on creating spaces where gender-expansive artists can thrive.

Two-Hour Tips: Shakespeare and Intimacy
Advanced Plus Diploma
No Prerequisite
Monday, December 14th, 2026
12:00 pm-2:00 pm Eastern Time (New York)
Two-Hour Tips: Shakespeare and Intimacy explores consent-based approaches to staging intimacy, relationships, and physical storytelling within Shakespeare’s plays. Participants will examine how heightened language, power dynamics, social expectations, and the given circumstances of Shakespeare’s texts can inform clear, repeatable, and actor-centered choreography.
Through discussion and practical tools, participants will explore approaches to staging moments of romantic, sexual, and relational intimacy while maintaining the complexity, urgency, and theatricality of Shakespeare’s work. The workshop will also consider how contemporary consent practices can support—not diminish—bold artistic choices and help artists navigate historical texts through a modern ethical lens.
This two-hour digital workshop is designed for actors, directors, educators, intimacy coordinators, choreographers/directors, and other theatre practitioners seeking practical tools for bringing consent-based practices into Shakespeare rehearsal and performance.

No Prerequisite
Monday, December 14th, 2026
6:00 pm-9:00 pm Eastern Time (New York)
The intersection of resources and support is where we can begin to create true belonging. This interactive three-hour digital workshop moves beyond the idea that “all are welcome” and asks what it takes to create spaces where people can say, “This was built with me in mind.”
We define culture as “what is given space in the room to grow.” Through reflection, conversation, and practical application, participants will examine how everyday choices shape culture and learn strategies and tools for greater awareness, accountability, and intentional action.
The goal is not perfection—it is creating cultures where people know they were considered from the beginning.
