Toranika Washington (She/Her)
Toranika Washington (she/her) is an Intimacy Director and Coordinator, Movement Director, Teaching Artist, Educator, Wellness Business Owner, and the Director of Intimacy Professionals for Theatre & Cinema (IPTC), an in-person intimacy certification program located at DePaul University Theatre School in Chicago, IL. Inside DePaul, Toranika teaches movement to actors, intimacy certification courses and provides intimacy support for productions.
She is passionate about supporting actors through challenging scenes and assisting performers, production, and crew in ways to help cultivate healthier working environments. Her approach to intimacy is informed by over 25+ years of combined training and experience teaching, performing, choreographing, and creating stories through dance and movement.
Toranika is a CMA Certified Movement Analyst from the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies, she holds certifications in Kemetic Yoga and Mental Health First Aid and her wellness practice, Somatic Soul Food-Movement Consulting offers group sessions and global retreats focused on stress and anxiety relief.
Her academic background includes an MFA in Choreography from Jacksonville University, an MA in Teaching and Learning from Nova Southeastern University, and a BFA in Radio and Television Broadcasting with a minor in African American & Caribbean Studies from the University of Central Florida.
