Intimacy Choreography Lab for Theatre, Film & TV - In-Person Lab
TIE’s Intimacy Choreography Lab for Theatre, Film, and TV is a one-day, in-person workshop designed to deepen participants’ understanding of the Intimacy Director/Coordinator role working across theatre, live performance, and film/TV. Through embodied exploration, collaborative discussion, role play scenarios, and reflective practice, participants will engage with the practical, ethical, and creative processes involved in intimacy choreography and advocacy.
Participants will:
Deepen their understanding of the Intimacy Director/Coordinator role
Build confidence in navigating consent-based tools throughout the production process
Explore rehearsal tools for choreography, communication, and collaboration
Engage with scene work, movement exercises, and practical role-play scenarios
Develop leadership and advocacy skills within rehearsal and on set environments
Investigate creative approaches to storytelling centred in agency, care, and artistic integrity
The workshop includes:
Guided discussions and reflective practice
Case studies and real industry scenarios
Small group and partner-based exercises
Collaborative problem solving
Practical choreography and movement tools
Space for discussion around current industry practices and evolving methodologies
Rooted in collective learning and curiosity, the lab supports both emerging and experienced practitioners in developing sustainable, adaptable, and artist-centered approaches to intimacy work.
All experience levels are welcome. Previous participation in an Introduction to Intimacy or TIE Best Practices workshop is highly encouraged.

Curriculum Overlap
This workshop covers much of the same material covered in TIE’s Best Practices and Theatrical Studio Techniques Digital Workshops (and so much more!). Participants who have attended a Workshop Weekend after completing both digital workshops have shared that they learned an enormous amount from the hands-on learning, activities, Q&A sessions, and real-time feedback!
There is no pre-requisite for a TIE Workshop Weekend and this workshop satisfies the Best Practices/Workshop Weekend pre-requisite requirement for other TIE workshops.
Transfers/ Exchanges for Credit
If TIE postpones or cancels the workshop, all participants will receive their full registration cost paid to TIE as credit towards future workshops or registration credit for a future Workshop Weekend.
In all other circumstances, TIE does not offer refunds for workshops. If you are unable to attend, you may request an exchange for credit or a transfer to another workshop 14-days prior to the workshop weekend for a small administrative fee. We are unable to honor requests made within 14 days of in-person workshops. Click here to begin the transfer or exchange process.
